AIMS AND RATIONALE

Architects add art, creativity, and beauty to the nation’s daily life in ways we don’t expect. They know how to design our favorite little alcove or how to give our building the best view. Various studies have shown that areas with good architecture and design create stronger communities with healthier neighborhoods and businesses.

The program of Architectural technology proposed by APIST aims to offer knowledge and prepare Eswatini architectural experts for the identification and analysis of architectural problems, design and development in architecture and improvement in aesthetic as well as efficiency terms.  The key architectural, urbanistic, engineering, and maintenance issues are related to other important parameters as social, aesthetic, and ecological values.  Students that have completed the program will be able to apply an advanced knowledge-based of human, technical, and social aspects and will be competent to solve programs of architectural, urbanistic, and civil engineering nature. Their enhanced communication, problem-solving, and analysis skills will prepare them to implement more complex projects in the area and give them a route to academic research.

PROGRAMME LEARNING OUTCOMES

This certificate is designed to equip the trainee with the requisite knowledge in building design and understand the processes involved in their construction. At the end of one year of the studies, graduates in the Polytechnic Department, Programme of Architectural Technology will be awarded a Certificate in Architectural Technology

The course also forms a platform for further training in the building industry. Upon successful completion of the course, the trainee can work as a clerk of works in construction companies or enroll in diploma courses in any of the related disciplines.

Upon successful completion of the Programme, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

  2. The engineering aspect of the project
  3. Evaluation of social, economic, spatial aspects of the environment through the design and planning process.
  4. Professional communication and interpretation in different levels of audience
  5. Providing solutions on construction, building technology, and engineering problems related to the Architecture and Construction industry.
  6. Evaluation of Architectonic and Urban values of spatial- urban units
  7. Making critical arguments, hypotheses, concepts, and data in reaching decisions and solving architecture issues creatively
  8. Participating in planning, design, and implementation of Small and Medium-scale architecture projects
  9. Actively participating, contributing, and adapting to interdisciplinary teams in architectural design
  10. Apply acquired knowledge and skills in further professional and academic development
  11. Committing to lifelong learning and adapt to technology and work methods in architecture

Entry profile

The recommended candidate in the Polytechnic Department, Programme of Architectural Technology is everyone who holds an SGCSE Certificate with 3 credits and 2 passes and some Technical and Vocational Training will be added advantage.
