The Department of Agricultural has as its focus the teaching and learning processes. All three elements of the land-grant philosophy - learning, discovery, and engagement - are part of the department's emphasis on the educational processes, and how these processes impact our clientele in a variety of agricultural settings.

Food Bioscience is the application of biological and related sciences to food issues. Food bioscientists are much in demand to ensure food quality, safety and security. There is a growing demand worldwide for highly trained graduates in food science and technology, for positions in the food and food-related industries. The APIST Food Bioscience programme is designed to meet that demand.

The Department of Rural Development offers programs focused on rural studies and rural development that are unique in Africa.
The establishment of the Department of Rural Development at APIST is a response to the issues facing rural communities. The Department of Rural Development will increasingly become a resource for affecting change in these communities. The Department will offer programs focused on rural studies and rural development that are unique in Africa.
